THE OPENING OF SEAF 17 IN THE AUDITORIUM OF UB
|
Barcelona Universityemerged from the mediaeval cathedral schools. After many historical vicissitudes, mainly during the War of Succession (1701-1713), its seat was established in the city of Barcelona. Construction on the Historic Building started in 1863, where the formal opening of the 17th Congress of the Spanish Society of Biological Anthropology will take place. The historic building is the work of the architect, Elies Rogent. It has an eclectic style, very typical of that period, mixing different mediaeval styles such as Romanesque, Islamic, Gothic and Mudejar. Work on the building of Barcelona University lasted for more than twenty years, although in 1871 it was already sufficiently advanced to be able to deliver the first lessons at the new seat. The clock and iron clock tower situated in the tower of the Arts Patio were installed in 1881. One year later the building was practically finished and the sculptural and picturesque elements, commissioned to recognised artists of the time, were installed. The building was declared a “national historic-artistic” monument in 1970. |

The first signatory, at least, must be registered at the congress.
The same author may not present more than one contribution as a first signatory. .
Publication of Contributions
The guest papers and the scientific contributions will ONLY be published on electronic format, so anyone who prefers to print out their own contributions on paper can do so, as the layout will be the ordinary layout of a printed book. Apart from access to the abstracts presented and other information, on the SEAF17 Intranet there will be a forum for questions and to solve doubts. If you do not remember your password, consult at : seaf17@ub.edu or at seaf17@gmail.com.
ARCHITECTONIC BARCELONA

The Parque Güell is a large garden with architectonic elements situated in the north of the city of Barcelona. In the centre of the park there is an enormous oval-shaped square, 3,000 square metres, constructed between 1907 and 1913. Its edge serves as a bench and it undulates like a 110-metre long snake. It is covered with tiny pieces of ceramic and glass. According to the original drawing, the main square should have been a Greek theatre, suitable for community meetings and to hold events.
